That is nothing!!!! I set an autopay of 200 per month and canceled the account because they raised the interest. I then just paid off the card. They continued to process the auto pay for over a year and I could not cancel it because there online system had no record of it. There customer support had no record of it. Yet they sent me checks for the amount every few months. I finally found a programer who found the code and removed it. Customer support said it was my fault!!!

Your mother and I are members of the UU church in Lexington on the green. I have offered to subsidize anyone from that church who wants to go to Jon Stewart's demonstration this coming Saturday, October 30. She told me you were trying to go, and that you were trying to get friends to go as well. I will e-mail you the offer I e-mailed to the congregation and let you know that I can give you some money, and, if you get a car load to go, let me know, because I can subsidize you all for up to $500.

I'm in love with this series too. I've seen it twice and downloaded so that I can revisit Sandel's lectures whenever I want.

Sandel recently gave a talk at TED, in which he beautified the idea that, in order to have earnest discussions, we have to understand from what standpoint we're arguing. I think you'll like it http://www.ted.com/talks/michael_sandel_the_lost_art_of_democratic_debate.html

I loved the piece on Glenn Beck - everyone who thinks he's legitimate (not many) needs to see that.

Anyway, I'm really bothered by the second clip because I worry that these idiots are convincing people that making Muslim-Americans go through a separate line at airports is a good idea.

Phil,

Though I agree that the Democrats' loss in Massachusetts could spell a political opportunity for Obama, I fear that the health care initiative is damaged beyond repair. As politicians cut deals behind the scenes in order to pass this historic bill, the public is becoming more and more fed up with government spending and bureaucracy. Perhaps even to the point where no healthcare bill will be favored by most Americans.

A year from now, it would be a political disaster for the Democrats if nothing has been passed to reform healthcare, and don't the Republicans know this? Maybe I'm cynical, but what incentive is there for Scott Brown and the 40 other senators in his party to cooperate with Obama now (beside the fact that it may help our economy and the lives of our citizens)? This is Obama's "Waterloo", remember?

Brooks wrote another great article yesterday: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/opinion/22brooks.html?em, and he sold me on his argument that the American people distrust the government now more than they ever have. It's a political environment, in my opinion, that poses an impossible obstacle to the passage of any healthcare initiative. The only hope for a bill would be one that greatly reduces the cost, but probably won't have much in there to cover uninsured Americans...

I hope I'm wrong.
