Happy holidays everyone! I’m in Connecticut at my cousin’s and we just spent the afternoon opening presents! Time for some turkey and then CELTICS v LAKERS, but, I wanted to announce the first winner of my t-shirt promotion:
The first free IDTIK t-shirt goes to:
Brian V.
Brian, I agree that the “I’m right and your wrong” approach has dominated our political discourse, and that we might get a lot further if people at least tried to respect the other side of arguments. I also like your point about people morphing their personal versions of “change” with the type of change Obama is promising. A lot of the other comments picked up on this too. I’ve heard people describe Obama’s campaign as a blank canvass, onto which people projected their own views. I think this is true, at least to a certain extent, and a situation like that will lead to some disappointments. But wouldn’t underestimate Obama’s ability to calm these types of disappointments.
Thank you Elliott, Zack, Doug, Peter, and Mat, for all your great comments. This was a tough decision but I had to pick someone… Please keep commenting, though, because I’m giving out seven more shirts!
Zack and Doug, you did a good job of explaining the legitimate frustrations some people are feeling in response to this issue. And, thank you Doug for the Andrew Sullivan article–it’s really good stuff! I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts on footesteppes. Peter, that would be great if our politicians wore shirts saying “I don’t think I know.” Elliott, I love your thought of “supporting a conversation of opinions instead of just one opinion.” Mat… you’re hilarious.
The next shirt will be given out next Thursday, so keep the comments coming!
Thanks again, and happy holidays!
